Gardaí are still questioning three people arrested in Galway this morning in relation to their investigation into the murder of a man whose body was found in a freezer in the city last month.

A man (43) was arrested in Knocknacarra area of the city shortly after 7am. A woman in her 20s and another woman in her 40s were detained in the Ballybane and city centre areas of the city.

The man is being held under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act at Galway Garda station, while the women are being held under Section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act in Galway and Loughrea Garda stations.

The body of Patrick McCormack (52) was found in a plastic container in the cold storage unit attached to the Mermaid Fish Shop on Henry Street in Galway on June 13th.

He had been missing for five years, gardaí have established, and was last seen alive in Dublin in June 2002. His Opel Vectra car was later found abandoned in Shannon, Co Clare.

Mr McCormack had been badly beaten up, and his hands were tied behind his back. He was known to gardaí and was suspected of being involved in drug dealing in the west of Ireland.

He had previous convictions for robbery, though none for drug dealing.
