Health chiefs in the UK are investigating the deaths of three people after they contracted salmonella in hospital.
The men were all being treated on a medical ward at the Victoria Infirmary in Glasgow.
One other patient also contracted the bug, but hospital officials would give no details of his condition.
The outbreak of salmonella was first suspected on January 2nd this year and was confirmed by tests six days later.
As a precautionary measure, transfers to and from ward seven at the hospital were suspended for several days.
A hospital spokesman said: "In total, four patients contracted salmonella. Admissions to ward seven were stopped and the ward subsequently reopened on January 13th.
"Sadly, three of the patients who contracted salmonella subsequently died."
Investigations have not indicated that any other hospital wards have been affected by the outbreak.
The outbreak occurred at an all-male medical ward. Details of the men who have died were not being given by the hospital.
The source of the outbreak is being linked to the earlier admission of one of the four patients who contracted salmonella.
