Three men appeared at Belfast Magistrates' Court yesterday accused of attempted intimidation following attacks on a number of Catholic homes in the Markets district of the city at the weekend, when several windows were smashed.

The three were charged with using threats or menaces to try to get families to leave their homes in Joy Street.

The men, all from the nearby Donegall Pass area, are Mr Thomas McCavera (24), of Rainey Way, Mr David Boyd (26), from Oak Way, and Mr John Shaw (21), of Vernon Street.

They were remanded on bail to another court on September 16th on condition they observe a 12 hour nightly curfew and keep out of licensed premises.
