Gardaí in Galway have arrested a third man in relation to a foiled armed raid on the home of a Co Galway businessman.

Gardaí in Galway have arrested a third man in relation to a foiled armed raid on the home of a Co Galway businessman.

The man (42) was arrested this afternoon following his release from University College Hospital Galway shortly after 3pm.

He had been under Garda surveillance following his admission to the hospital on Sunday night, where he had surgery for leg injuries.

He is currently being held at Mill Street Garda station under Section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act.

A gang of men broke into the home of Julian Flynn and his wife Emma at Lackagh-Turloughmore, which is situated between Galway city and Tuam before 9pm on Sunday night.

Mr and Mrs Flynn and three of their four children were tied up with cable cord. Their youngest child is a six month old baby.

A member of the family managed to raise the alarm just after the raiders struck and two local gardai arrived at the house within minutes and confronted the gang. Two men were arrested at the scene.

Two other men are still being sought in connection with the raid.
