A KIND word may be free – but a happy thought on your Twitter or Facebook page could go one better and contribute a euro to charity.
A social campaign set up yesterday by Headstrong, the national centre for youth mental health, will see O2 donate up to €200,000 to support youth mental health.
For every happy thought posted – via the website o2thinkbig.ie – to a person’s social networking site, the telecommunications company will donate €1 to the centre.
The company has pledged to donate up to €200,000 as part of the campaign.
“By encouraging people to proactively share a happy thought with their friends, family and people they know, we are assisting people to think positively and share this positivity,” said Tony Bates, founder of Headstrong.
“Clearly social networking has become an integral part of modern communications, especially amongst young people,” said Jonnie Cahill, O2 marketing director.
According to an online survey of 300 young people aged between 16 and 25 which was conducted on behalf of Headstrong earlier this year, 80 per cent of respondents said that people need to be more upbeat.
