Sir, - Now that it is proposed to set up a Government committee to take up the unemployment question, it may, perhaps, be opportune to call attention to the necessity of including in its terms of reference the working of the Labour Exchange.

The Labour Exchange absorbs a fair share of revenue and is an expense on taxpayers and, as such, its utility and administration should be brought to light. Many are of opinion that it is obsolete insofar as finding employment is concerned, as employers seldom, if ever, use it in looking for men.

Before considering its abolition, however, it might be worthwhile to see if any improvements could be made. It is the considered view of many that, as it stands at present, it is practically useless. - Yours, etc.,
