Tesco has said it will extend price cuts on Irish products to its stores the Dublin area after the plan went “extremely well” in stores close to the Border with Northern Ireland.
The retailer is to make the announcement later today but took out full page advertisements in newspapers this morning saying that price adjustments made in Border shops would be extended to nine Dublin outlets.
The changes will be introduced in Artane, Ashbourne, Balbriggan, Blanchardstown, Clarehall, Clearwater, Prussia Street, Santry, Jervis Street and Parnell Street.
"Customers are back shopping in our stores in Border towns," Tesco Ireland's chief executive Tony Keohane said in an interview with RTÉ's Morning Ireland.
Tesco is cutting prices in an attempt to prevent shoppers crossing into the North to take advantage of the weakness of the British pound against the euro.
However, an article in today's Irish Timessays the retailer has reverted to the original, higher prices on many products which had their prices reduced as part of its campaign, despite the retailer saying that the price cuts were not promotional.
Suppliers have complained that the amount of space allocated to Irish brands has fallen significantly due to its price reduction programme.
