Templemore event sees 146 gardai graduate

One hundred and forty six gardaí graduated at a ceremony in the Garda College in Templemore in Co Tipperary today.

One hundred and forty six gardaí graduated at a ceremony in the Garda College in Templemore in Co Tipperary today.

The 43 women and 103 men were presented with their certificates by the Minister for Justice Mr O'Donoghue.

Eighty-five of the new recruits will be stationed in Dublin while the remaining 61 will be posted to various locations around the State.

The Commissioner's Medal - awarded to the student achieving the highest marks in academic subjects - was won by Garda Irene Walsh from Cork. She will be stationed in Ennis in Co Clare.

Garda Paul Mulcahy was awarded the Gary Sheehan Memorial Medal for being best all-round student. Mr Mulcahy, who is from Ballsbridge in Dublin, will be attached to Harcourt Terrace Garda station in the city.

Garda Sandra McGinty from Donegal was awarded the Templemore Urban District Council Medal for outstanding achievement and appreciation in the area of Social Science Studies. She will be stationed in Blanchardstown in Dublin.
