FAMILIES Against Intimidation and Terror (FAIT) has condemned a so called punishment beating in which a Belfast teenager suffered two broken legs.

The 17 year old youth was found late on Monday night severely injured and lying in an entry at Elmfield Street. He is currently being treated in hospital.

FAIT said the "mindless thugs" who carried out the attack were the real "anti social elements in our society and should not be protected".

Meanwhile, a man and a woman escaped serious injury after their home was badly burned in a petrol bomb attack early yesterday in Killyleagh, Co Down.

The couple discovered the blaze when they heard glass breaking in the house at Highbury Walk around 3 a.m. The fire had reached the landing of the house. The couple got out when neighbours placed a ladder against an upstairs bedroom window.

The couple were treated for smoke inhalation. The man said he could think of no reason why his home should have been targeted.
