Teenager admits manslaughter of man in Cork stabbing last year

A teenager has been remanded on bail for sentencing after he pleaded guilty to manslaughter in a stabbing incident in Co Cork last year.

The 17-year-old youth, who cannot be named for legal reasons, had been charged with the murder of Shannon Ruby (30), a father of one, at Station Road, Blarney, on September 26th, 2009.

At the Central Criminal Court sitting in Cork yesterday, the teenager pleaded not guilty to the murder charge but guilty to manslaughter.

Tom Creed, prosecuting, told the court this was acceptable to the Director of Public Prosecutions.

Mr Justice Paul Carney adjourned sentencing until October 19th to allow for the preparation of a victim impact statement, and he remanded the youth on bail until then.
