The best option for total escape from election mania this weekend may be the fifth annual Tedfest on ‘Craggy Island’, aka Inis Mór.
Started in tribute to the Father Ted television series, which ended almost 13 years ago, the event has proven enormously popular.
Today’s events on the island include ‘A local man singing’ and ‘Live hymns with Father Brennan’.
Later this evening, patrons can enjoy country and western hour and a spot of confession. Fr Elvis takes to the stage at 10pm.
Other performers at the event include Sister Assumpta, an “aerobics teacher” and Fr Frett and Sister Morphine “a dirty blues duo”.
Tomorrow, enjoy a singalong with Father Philip and entertainment from the Cunning Linguists at the Craggy Crack Den. Other events include the Lovely Girls Swiss Roll heat and the Toilet Duck Winner 2011. The festival aftershow continues until late tomorrow night.
In other weekend entertainment, Eddie Reader concludes her short Irish tour at the Dunamaise Arts Centre, Portlaoise, 8pm tonight.
Vote counting for some Dublin constituencies takes place at the RDS in Ballsbridge at the weekend and traffic around the area is likely to be heavy.
The Irish Times Motor Show also takes place at the RDS Simmonscourt from today until Sunday. The event runs until 8pm tonight and from 10pm to 6pm tomorrow and Sunday.
Also in Dublin this weekend, Usher plays the 02 on Sunday at 8pm.
Met Éireann is forecasting cold weather tomorrow, with some heavy and possibly prolonged showers in places during the morning. Showers will be more scattered in the afternoon with better sunny spells.
Top temperatures will be 7 to 9 degrees.
Cool, fresh weather is expected through the rest of the weekend and early next week with frost at night, but with a good deal of dry weather overall.
