The teachers' unions are to seek a major Government review of pay and conditions to compensate them for "radical changes" in work practices. The largest union, the INTO, has already decided to seek the review under Partnership 2000 and the two secondary teachers' unions will decide their position today.
The INTO has also decided to recommend entering talks on a successor to Partnership 2000 at tomorrow's special delegate conference of the Irish Congress of Trade Unions in Dublin. However, its general secretary, Mr Joe O'Toole, warned last night that his union "won't be voting for any deal which doesn't allow our review to take place".
