More than 40 ASTI members teaching at Árd Scoil Rís in Limerick took to the picket line yesterday in a one-day strike.

The teachers are striking over what they say is "the school management's failure to follow agreed procedures over the operation of the school and its treatment of the school staff". The ASTI president, Mr Pat Cahill, who visited the school yesterday, said the failure by the school's board of management to implement all agreed industrial relations procedures has left the staff with no option but to strike.

According to ASTI, staff members have been denied "normal teacher representation" on the board.
