A national teacher has been convicted by a jury at the Central Criminal Court of two charges of indecently assaulting a female pupil in a west Dublin school in 1982.
The jury took almost four hours on the third day of the trial to convict the 45-year-old man of indecently assaulting the victim in a classroom on a date between February 1st and June 6th, 1982.
The jury then took a further three hours to convict him by a 10-2 majority of indecently assaulting her in the school toilet on July 11th, 1982.
Mr Justice O Caoimh remanded the defendant on continuing bail for sentence on May 18th next. He directed the preparation of a victim impact statement.
The victim, now 29, told the jury the assault happened after she pulled a muscle when running. She described how her teacher told her the injury was in her groin area, massaged her leg with one hand and sexually assaulted her.
She said the second incident happened after the defendant followed her into the toilet where she was changing.
He pleaded not guilty to the two charges.
