BY far the smartest party of the week was Image magazine's coming of age party in La Stampa on Wednesday. Publisher Kevin Kelly took over the very splendid - and beautifully decorated - main room of the restaurant to celebrate 21 years in print, and the champagne flowed long after the official going home time of 9.30 p.m. It was such a must party for fun girls that at least one important get together, the monthly meeting of the women TDs' 84 Group, was cancelled in its favour. This freed TDs Mary Wallace, Mary O'Rourke, Mary Harney, Cecilia Keaveney, Frances Fitzgerald, and Liz O'Donnell to join the festive atmosphere.
Kelly, Fitzwilliam Square's newest resident, paid such glowing tribute to the magazine's editor Jane McDonnell that more than one partygoer suggested the wily publisher wouldn't have a leg to stand on if Jane went in the following morning and demanded a revised pay packet that included the sun, moon and stars. The party continued well into the small hours in Lillie's Bordello.
