London - The Tate Gallery celebrated its centenary yesterday with a homage to its founder, sugar magnate Henry Tate, whose private collection formed the basis of the current catalogue.
Prince Charles inaugurated an exhibition of his donations. The gallery has 2.2 million visitors a year. It holds 50,000 works, mostly from the 19th and 20th centuries, but can exhibit only 15 per cent of them at a time. - (AFP)
