The Taoiseach today condemned the loyalist blockade outside Holy Cross Primary School in the Ardoyne area of North Belfast.

Speaking in Dublin today, Mr Ahern said every child had the right to go to school and that it was wrong that children should suffer.

He confirmed he had spoken to British Prime Minister Mr Tony Blair about the situation in the North on Monday.

Mr Ahern’s comments came after Northern Ireland Secretary, Dr John Reid, decided to cut short his summer holidays to return to Belfast. The move was prompted by this morning’s blast bomb attack which has increased fears that violence will escalate.
