The Tánaiste, Ms Mary Harney, and Mr Brian Geoghegan today hosted a private party in Dublin to celebrate their secret wedding last month.
The private function for about 160 people, including family, friends and political colleagues, is being held in the Mansion House in Dublin city this evening.
Ms Harney, who is 48, married Mr Geoghegan, a divorcee in his 50s, at Dublin Registry Office on November 30th after a year-long romance. The couple had been friends for years.
Mr Geoghegan, chairman of FÁS and IBEC's director of economic policy, and Ms Harney plan to go on honeymoon in the New Year.
The couple slotted the secret marriage between appointments in the Tánaiste’s busy schedule.
She attended a North/South Council meeting in Dublin Castle and took part in negotiations to resolve the sugar beet dispute before rushing home to get changed for her wedding service.
