Pickets have been lifted at a North Dublin commercial vehicle repair workshop to allow for talks to take place in a dispute surrounding compulsory redundancies.

Pickets had been placed at Pullman Fleet Services in Ballymun this morning.

According to Siptu, the company is offering statutory redundancy and €1,000 each to 23 workers who are losing their jobs. This means payment of between €5,000 and €8,000 for each worker.

Siptu attended a conciliation conference with Pullman at the Labour Relations Commission on Friday proposing that workers receive five weeks per year of service in line with previous redundancy packages in the sector.

However the company did not improve its offer.

Siptu organiser Graham Macken said the union’s claim “is in line with one secured when employees on the same site were made redundant in October and had the additional option of redeployment which is not the case for these workers”.

Efforts to contact the company today were unsuccessful.
