Union leaders have begun talks with ISPAT management at the Labour Relations Commission today in a final attempt to prevent the closure of the Cork steel plant.
ISPAT, formerly Irish Steel, announced the closure last Friday with the loss of 400 jobs. Workers met management on Monday to discuss possible rescue packages but no agreement was reached.
SIPTU, which represents 250 of the 400 employees concerned, says it does not accept the decision to close the plant is irreversible.
