Talks are due to take place between Dublin Bus, gardaí and community representatives over rising levels of violence on buses in Tallaght, west Dublin.

Gardaí are investigating an incident last Friday afternoon in which a man fell out of the back window of a bus near the Square Shopping Centre in Tallaght.

Gardaí found the man lying on the ground, and two youths were arrested on suspicion of pushing the man out of the window. They were later released.

Dublin Bus have cancelled evening services to some areas as a result of the growing risks to both staff and passengers.

The Tallaght Community Bus Forum is to meet today to discuss solutions to the problem.

Fianna Fáil Dublin West TD Charlie O'Connor said this morning the safety of passengers and bus crews must be "paramount". He said he will seek assurances from Dublin Bus that CCTV is operational on all buses in the area.

"I will also want to know what steps the company has taken to ensure that there will be no sudden stoppages to bus services because of security issues," he said. "It is unacceptable that a small minority of thugs would hold an entire community to ransom."
