Talks to avert Friday's one-day strike at 75 Tesco outlets in the Republic begin this afternoon at the Labour Court. Mandate and SIPTU, which represent the 9,500 staff, both confirmed yesterday that they would attend.
Mandate's national industrial officer, Mr John Douglas, said he hoped "real and substantial progress could be made in ending the low-pay problem". Unless this happened, he said, Friday's industrial action would go ahead.
