Talks are to take place today to avert a 24 hour strike by 300 manual staff at University Hospital, Galway, tomorrow, writes Padraig Yeates, Industry and Employment Correspondent.
But SIPTU regional secretary, Ms Janet Hughes, says she is not optimistic. "Unless something radically new is on offer, the strike will go ahead."
The dispute is over plans to expand outside catering at the hospital. If the dispute is not resolved, the 24 hour stoppage tomorrow will be the first of a series leading to an all out strike.
