Srinagar - The Indian Prime Minister, Mr Inder Kumar Gujral, yesterday renewed offers of unconditional talks with Muslim separatists but said the country's unity would be preserved "at all cost".
Mr Gujral, addressing a public rally in the northern Kashmiri town of Baramulla, also warned that foreign guerrillas infiltrating the frontier Himalayan province would be shown "no mercy".
"In the 50th year of independence I pledge that the unity of India will be maintained at all cost," he said. "In 50 years this country has not bowed to anyone, nor will it bow in the future."
His offer of unconditional talks with Kashmiri militants was the first ever by the Indian government. - (AFP)
