Islamabad - Afghanistan's Taliban militia released five Iranian captives yesterday and sent them to Pakistan, a spokesman said.
The spokesman, Mr Wakil Ahmad, quoted by a Pakistanbased Afghan news service, said those released in the southern Afghan town of Kandahar were three Iranian truck drivers arrested in northern Afghanistan last month during a Taliban sweep through the region, and two other Iranians captured earlier.
The Taliban militia yesterday denied it had massacred thousands of civilians after capturing the northern city of Mazar-iSharif last month. The Taliban spokesman, Mr Wakil Ahmed Mutawakkil, told the Afghan Islamic Press that an Amnesty International report on the alleged massacre was based on information given by the Afghan opposition.
