The women in technology and science (WIT) organisation has been raising awareness of the number and quality of Irish women scientists, engineers and technologists since its launch in November 1990. It has culminated in the publication of the WITS Talent Bank.
It is a listing, according to scientific discipline and technology background, of 94 women who can be called on to contribute at the highest levels of policy-making or serve on advisory, selection or management boards. Details of careers, expertise and contact addresses are supplied.
The WITS chairwoman, Dr Jacqueline Allan, said the women have a significant contribution to make to the social and economic development of Ireland. "By producing and distributing the WITS Talent Bank, we have sought to assist those engaged in making appointments to such bodies to achieve both the gender balance and the science and technology representation they require."
