Gardaí have confirmed they are separately investigating the suspicious death of a young woman in Roscommon and that of an elderly man in Co Cork this evening.
A woman's body was discovered at a house on Lanesboro Street in Roscommon town shortly after 7pm. The woman had received several stab wounds.
The area has been closed off and the State Pathologist contacted.
The dead woman who is reported in her late 20s.
A man in his 30's was arrested a short time after the incident and is being held under the provisions of Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act at Roscommon Garda Station.
Gardaí are also investigating the death of a farmer in his 60's who claimed he was the victim of an assault shortly before dying of a suspected heart attck in Co Cork.
The man reportedly contacted gardai yesterday afternoon claiming the alleged incident took place around 4pm in Coachford.
The man, who is reported to have had minor injuries, was taken to Cork University hospital where he died on arrival.
Gardaí last night said the man's death was being treated as suspicious.
