GARDAÍ INVESTIGATING the murder of 35-year-old father of two Daniel Treacy in Limerick early on Monday morning were last night continuing to question a 29-year-old man suspected of carrying out the shooting.

Gardaí arrested the man in Moyross at about 10.30pm on Monday and brought him to Henry Street Garda station, where he was detained under Section 50 of the Criminal Justice Act 2007, which allows gardaí to detain suspects for up to seven days.

Gardaí last night released without charge a 28-year-old man arrested on Monday for questioning about the murder. A file will be prepared for the DPP in respect of his role in the killing.

Mr Treacy was shot at the Topaz station on the Ennis Road, just before 6.30am on Monday.

The red Toyota Corolla, registration 96LK 1814, was found partially burned out at Beale Strand near Ballybunion in north Kerry on Monday night.

Supt Frank O’Brien of Henry Street Garda station asked anyone who may have seen anything suspicious on the Ennis Road or have any information to contact Mayorstone station on 061-456980.

Mr Treacy, who is survived by his partner, Amanda, and children, Danielle and Kieran, will be removed from Cross’s Funeral Home in Limerick tomorrow at 7pm. He will be buried at Doonass Cemetery after requiem Mass at St Mary’s Church at 11am on Friday.
