English police have arrested a 52-year-old man in connection with the disappearance of the missing schoolgirl Ms Amanda Dowler.

"A 52-year-old from Ashford in Surrey was arrested at a prison just before 10 a.m.," Surrey police said in a statement released yesterday. "The arrest was made in connection with the inquiry into missing schoolgirl Amanda Dowler," they added.

A spokesman declined to give further details.

The 13-year-old schoolgirl, known to friends and family as Milly, was last seen on March 21st at Walton-on-Thames train station in Surrey.

Her disappearance sparked a huge police hunt and repeated televised appeals for information.

Actor Mr Jonathan Pryce and pop star Mr Will Young appealed for help in finding the schoolgirl.

A 36-year-old man was released on police bail last month after being questioned in connection with the case.
