An article in the edition of October 1st, concerning a libel case brought by Sir Hugh Orde against the Sunday World, said that the amount in damages was understood to be one of the largest settlements reached in the Northern Ireland courts. This information was supplied to the media after the case concluded.
However, Fanning and Kelly, solicitors for the Sunday World, have stated that it was not one of the largest settlements reached and a statement from the newspaper has said that the settlement was a “five-figure sum”.
