IT MAY still be a dog’s life but any pet belonging to new lottery winners Siobhán and Noel Greaney will surely fare quite well out of the couple’s €9.8 million win. The couple, who are from Carnmore in Oranmore, Co Galway, collected their winnings yesterday and announced that the first thing they will do with their win is to buy a dog.

“Right now, we’re planning to buy a dog, a Retriever, whom we plan to name Millie, in honour of our million-euro jackpot win,” Ms Greaney said. “After that, it’ll be back to normal, we hope.”

The couple said the past week had been a “rollercoaster ride” but they were fortunate to have two fantastic and supportive families who will celebrate and share in their good fortune.

They purchased the ticket, worth €9,794,147, in Glynn’s Centra Store in Carnmore on September 2nd, the day of the draw. “We’ve had lots of good wishes and we’d like to thank everyone for that,” Ms Greaney said.

But there were more lucky dogs at the National Lottery headquarters in Dublin yesterday as a second couple also became millionaires.

The Dublin family, who wish to remain anonymous, collected more than €2.5 million, which they won in Wednesday’s draw.

The mother of the family purchased the lucky Quick Pick ticket in the EuroSpar store in Hartstown in north Dublin despite the fact that she usually plays her own selection.

“I’m so pleased I played Quick Pick for a change,” she said, adding that the family intend to clear their debts, bills and the mortgage before embarking on a shopping spree. “I’m going to buy a good pair of sunglasses to take full advantage of the good weather that’s supposed to be coming our way.”
