JAKARTA - Embattled Indonesian opposition leader Megawati Sukarnoputri sent a team of lawyers to police headquarters in Jakarta yesterday where she had been summoned for questioning in a case involving alleged slander of President Suharto.

Principal lawyer Robert Tambunan said after the 90- minute meeting that his legal team gave the police a letter outlining four legal flaws in the police summons that were the reasons for Ms Megawati's absence.

Mr Tambunan said the summons failed to address his client properly as a member of both houses of parliament and did not name the accused in the case in which she has been called as a witness.
