Jakarta - Indonesian police yesterday arrested Mr Tommy Suharto, the fugitive son of the former dictator, ex-president Gen Suharto, after a year-long manhunt.

Senior officers said the former millionaire playboy was captured at a house in the southern Jakarta suburb of Bintaro. Reporters saw him arrive in a police vehicle at Jakarta police headquarters, wearing a white T-shirt and a blue cap but without his trademark moustache.

The Jakarta police chief, Insp Gen Sofyan Jacub, said Mr Suharto (39) was arrested in the bedroom of the house following days of observation by a team of 15 detectives. Mr Hutomo (Tommy) Mandala Putra has been a fugitive since he failed to turn himself in on November 3rd last year to serve an 18-month jail sentence for corruption.
