A group of schoolchildren from Co Waterford whose plans for a week's skiing in Bulgaria were scuppered last month are to get their holiday this weekend, writes Tim O'Brien.
Their aircraft was not allowed to leave Belfast Airport last month, and the 31 children and six adults who returned to Tramore after a disappointing 14-hour wait were subsequently inundated with offers of consolation.
The FAI has invited the group to the friendly soccer international against the Czechs at Lansdowne Road, and Waterford Crystal has contributed a sizeable cheque to aid a new skiing trip.
Abbey School and Group Travel had also offered a discount and this Sunday most of the original group will finally leave for a week's skiing in Italy.
