A STUDENT nurse charged in connection with running a brothel has been released on bail. Jing Jing Wang, a Chinese national, appeared before Carlow District Court yesterday.
Ms Jing, in her early 20s, was arrested following a surveillance operation at her home in Kilkenny city on April 3rd. She appeared before Judge William Harnett.
Michael Osbourne, who said he knew the accused through a mutual friend for the last 18 months, stood as surety yesterday for the defendant.
Mr Osbourne, of Lucas Park House, Enniscorthy, Co Wexford, told the court he understood the charges facing Ms Jing and that he was willing to lodge a surety of €1,500 on her behalf with the court.
Mr Osbourne, in his early 20s, told the judge he made panels for timber-frame housing. He said the surety had come from his savings.
John Harte, solicitor for Ms Jing, explained that his client had come to Ireland two years ago on a student visa and that she had trained as a nurse in China. She has been in custody since her arrest.
Mr Harte told the court his client had lived at that address for six to eight weeks and that it was no longer a viable address.
He said Ms Jing had undertaken to live with a friend at 16 Riverview, Enniscorthy, Co Wexford. She was ordered to surrender her passport and to sign on at Enniscorthy Garda station three days a week. Supt Pat Mangan, of Kilkenny Garda station, said he hoped to have direction from the DPP on the case by next week.
Judge Harnett remanded the accused on her own bail of €800 and a surety of €1,500 to appear at Kilkenny District Court on May 6th.
