Strong quake aftershock hits Greek isle Skyros

An earthquake measuring 5

An earthquake measuring 5.4 on the Richter scale shook the central Aegean island of Skyros today, four days after another tremor damaged houses and cars on the popular Greek tourist isle.

There were no immediate reports of injuries or damage after the quake at 4:25 p.m. A seismologist at Athens's Geodynamic Institute said the quake was an aftershock of Thursday's tremor, which damaged more than 100 houses, a monastery and the island's two museums.

The main water well was also hit and water was being shipped to the island by boat until repairs were completed.

Local authorities have appealed to tourists not to cancel holidays on the island.
