DURING the third quarter of 1995, 31,366 days were lost through industrial action, compared with 92,545 in the second quarter, according to the Central Statistics Office.
The vast majority of the third quarter losses were accounted for by the strike at Dunnes Stores, where 8,057 workers were involved. The other six disputes involved 247 workers, of whom 106 were craft workers at the Guinness brewery in Dublin.
In the first quarter only 5,334 days were lost. In each quarter the number of firms involved in disputes never rose abode 14. The Dunnes Stores dispute accounted for more days lost than all other disputes in 1993 and 1994.
