The Hague - Five people were killed yesterday as fierce winds buffeted northern Europe, uprooting trees and disrupting rail, sea and air traffic and the British bank holiday weekend.
In the Netherlands, winds gusting up to 100 km per hour left three people dead. Storms left one dead and 20 injured in Belgium, and an uprooted tree killed a man in Germany. In Britain, there was torrential rain in the south of England, and warnings of severe flooding from high tides.
