Severe spring storms have brought ashore an abundance of seaweed and sea rods along the western seaboard, from Malin Head in Co Donegal to Co Clare. The seaweed and rods are processed for food and chemicals.
The Arramara company at Burtonport, Co Donegal, which indirectly employs 140 workers in harvesting, is paying £16 a ton for seaweed and £140 for sea rods.
