SIPTU has welcomed yesterday's statement by the chief executive of the Great Southern Hotels Group (GSHG), Mr Eamonn McKeon, that it would remain part of Aer Rianta "for the foreseeable future".
Amid media speculation that the GSHG chain may be sold off to fund capital investment, a SIPTU regional secretary, Mr Jack Nash, said the union would resist any attempt to sell the hotel chain to private interests.
Mr Nash said the workers' views on the future of the hotel chain had not changed significantly since they were last consulted in 1999.
"Our members are as determined as ever to remain within the public sector and to remain as an integrated and united entity. We are totally opposed to any breakup or sell-off."
