Frank Stapleton is still harbouring hopes of becoming the Republic of Ireland's new manager after being one of those to have preliminary interview for the job.
Stapleton, a former Arsenal and Manchester United legend, has limited management experience with only a two-and-a-half year stint at Bradford in the early 1990s on his CV.
More recently, Stapleton - Ireland's second-highest goalscorer behind Niall Quinn with 20 goals in 71 appearances - has worked as a TV and radio pundit in Ireland and Britain.
Stapleton told BBC GMR: "I had an interview with Bryan Hamilton, who is working with the Football Association of Ireland.
"His job is to whittle it down within the next week, I believe, and he will then take his findings back to the FAI. We are all waiting to hear, waiting by the phone.
"I'm very passionate about the Irish team but maybe the one thing against me is probably that I haven't managed in the Premiership," Stapleton said.
