THE ARRIVAL of the relics of St Therese of Lisieux, the saint also known as the Little Flower, drew steady crowds to St Mary’s Cathedral in Killarney yesterday, as part of a new nationwide tour.
The relics were met on the outskirts of the town by a Garda escort and carried through the church grounds by the Killarney Order of Malta shortly before 4pm.
Crowds were described as well down on 2001 when thousands thronged to the church for the arrival of the French saint’s relics.
However, the cathedral was to remain open throughout the night, with midnight Mass and an early morning Mass for workers taking place.
A queue filed past the relics yesterday and mission stalls were set up on the grounds of the cathedral. The relics will be taken away at noon today and will arrive at St Colmcille’s Carmelite Church tomorrow.
They leave Ireland on May 10th from Rosslare.
