St Patrick's Athletic informed eircom League authorities this afternoon that in addition to appealing their 15-point deduction tomorrow, they will request the league to examine the registration papers of no less than 28 players from other clubs.

St Pat's were docked 15 points last Friday when it was discovered that their top-scorer, Charles Mbabazi Livingstone, was improperly registered. When imposing the penalty, league officials made it clear that any other club found guilty of similar offences would meet the same fate.

League Commissioner Roy Dooney confirmed to ireland.comthis afternoon that an investigation would ensue, but declined to name the players or clubs involved. He said he expected to make the results of the investigation known at some stage next week.

Earlier this week, Dooney rejected the idea of a general amnesty for clubs who fielded unregistered players, but if a substantial number of clubs were to be docked points an amnesty may be prove to be the best way of restoring a sort of order.
