Workers at aircraft maintenance firm SR Technics are protesting outside the Swiss embassy in Dublin today over the size of their redundancy payments.
The Swiss-owned company said last month it planned to close its Dublin airport base with the loss of more than 1,100 jobs.
Siptu yesterday described as “totally unacceptable” the €48 million the company has available for redundancy payments. The union said this would cover just one week of redundancy for each year of service above the minimum statutory redundancy.
According to Siptu, the company is breaching a 1998 commitment to give workers the equivalent of Aer Lingus redundancy packages, estimated to be six weeks’ pay for each year of service. SR Technics was formerly known as Team Aer Lingus.
