A temporary classroom intended for a special needs pupil in Co Tyrone has been extensively damaged by petrol bombs, it was revealed today.

Furniture and computer equipment needs to be replaced at the Strabane Grammar School on Liskey Road, the principal said.

A number of devices were used over the weekend.

Headmaster Lewis Lacey said: “There was extensive damage done to a mobile for a special needs pupil, all the furniture and computer equipment needs to be replaced.

“It will be difficult but we will have it ready for September for her entry.”

Strabane Grammar is a controlled co-educational and non-denominational college and caters for pupils from all social and religious backgrounds.

A PSNI spokeswoman said: “A temporary classroom and associated classroom equipment at a school in Liskey Road in Strabane has been extensively damaged by fire.

“A number of petrol bombs were used to cause the damage, which is understood to have occurred sometime over the weekend.

“Anyone who was in the area and can assist police with their enquiries is asked to contact them at Strabane.”
