The Special Criminal Court in Dublin today fixed a date early next year for the trial of a Co Monaghan man arrested by detectives investigating the 1998 Omagh bombing.

Mr Seamus Daly (32), of Kilmurray, Culloville, Castleblayney is charged with membership of an illegal organisation styling itself the Irish Republican Army, otherwise Oglaigh na hEireann, otherwise the IRA between April 29th, 1998 and November 20th, 2000.

Mr Daly is one of five men being sued in a civil action by relatives of the 29 people killed in the 1998 Omagh bombing which was claimed by the Real IRA.

Assistant State Solicitor Ms Eliza Mc Hugh told the court that the trial is expected to last three weeks. The court fixed February 17th next year as the date for Mr Daly's trial and remanded him on continuing bail.
