A Co Louth man whose extradition is being sought by the Spanish police in connection with the death of his wife there four years ago appeared before the High Court yesterday.

Mr Michael Dermot McArdle, of Haggardstown, Dundalk, was arrested at work in Co Cavan and brought to Dublin to appear before the High Court on foot of a warrant issued by the Spanish authorities.

Detectives have been investigating the death of Mr McArdle's wife, Kelly-Anne, who died when she fell 40 feet from a hotel balcony on February 12th, 2000.

Mr and Mrs McArdle and their two young children were on the first day of a week-long holiday and were staying at the Melia Don Pepe Hotel in Marbella when the fall occurred.

Spanish police sought the extradition of Mr McArdle in 2001 following their inquiry into the circumstances of the death which included a post mortem.

Mr McArdle was arrested but released a week later after the extradition request was dropped.

He was remanded with consent to bail to Cloverhill Prison, at yesterday's proceedings.

Mr Justice Butler adjourned the case until November 30th.
