A Spanish footballer shot dead while taking a moonlight stroll on a beach was killed by an off-duty policeman, police confirmed today.
Sebastian Gomez Garrido, a defender with Spanish third division side Getafe, died after being shot several times from close range in the early hours of Sunday.
"The person who caused the death was a police official, based in Madrid and also on his holidays," police said in a statement.
"Shortly after the incident occured, the police official gave himself up voluntarily to our officers and he is being detained".
