Hundreds of Irish passengers on flights to and from Spanish resorts experienced delays of up to four hours at the weekend due to industrial action by Spanish air traffic controllers. The air traffic controllers went on strike on Friday but then began a work-to-rule on Saturday until midnight.
At Dublin Airport on Saturday, 88 charter flights to and from Spanish resorts were affected. Most were delayed for three to four hours. The flights were on the popular holiday destination routes such as Majorca, Malaga and Tenerife.
A spokeswoman for Aer Rianta said there had been no further delays yesterday and it did not expect any further disruption as the Spanish industrial action had ended.
At Cork Airport, a spokesman said there were some delays on Saturday. They had two flights, one to Palma, Majorca, and the other to Almeria, which were delayed.
