A motorway order for the South Eastern Motorway will be made today by the Dun Laoghaire-Rathdown county manager, Mr Kevin O'Sullivan. He will also publish an environmental impact statement.

The final leg of Dublin's C Ring will take traffic from the proposed Southern Cross Motorway through some of the State's most expensive residential land to connect with the M11.

With about 70,000 vehicles a day travelling a similar route and the existing sections of the M50 adding traffic, there are few choices on the route.

Travelling from south-east to north-west, the South Eastern Motorway leaves the M11 north of the Wilford Junction, at Crinken, and travels to a new junction for traffic exiting for Shankill. It continues north-west over a bridge at Bride's Glen to Laughanstown Junction where a link road will lead to Wyattville Junction on the Loughlinstown dual carriageway.

From Laughanstown Junction the motorway will continue to Carrickmines, passing south of Carrickmines Tennis Club, then along the northern boundary of the local authority housing at Ballyogan.

From here the route will cut through Leopardstown Racecourse, taking in land belonging to the Legionaries of Christ, the IDA, Leopardstown Park Hospital and the British ambassador's residence at Glencairn.

The road crosses Leopardstown Road at the junction with Murphystown Road and continues to Sandyford junction directly east of Moreen estate. From here the road heads west, turning south-west to a junction with Ballinteer between Lamb Doyles and Ballinteer. Continuing south-west, the route crosses Blackglen Road before turning north-west to its junction with the Southern Cross Motorway.
